Welcome to the Martin Parish Website!

This Home Page is a quick source for news and dates of events, and contains links to more detailed articles.

The site has a wide range of information on our village.Clickon any of the headings listed on the left of this page and find out more, alternatively, Click on one of the four headings across the top of this page and find out about the Parish Council.

This site can be whatever you are inspired to make it; it is a place for all of us living in the parish to share news, forthcoming events, ideas, memories, or simply to let each other know what is happening on our doorstep. So please send your ideas and/or contributions to the Editor at andrew@featherstoneestates.com or drop off a note at Sweetapples Barn, Sillens Lane.

Finally, I hope you find something of interest in the site but if not then please contribute an item that does appeal - new ideas and comments are appreciated!

News

Pilgrims Veterinary Practice 5-7 Castle Street Cranborne - Luke and Cordelia live at Pilgrims Cottage Martin and run the practice in Cranborne. They are always especially pleased to see the animals of Martin at the Surgery (and their owners of course!) and can often arrange home visits (farm, equine or small animal) FOC for residents of the village.

Old News

George Newman is 90 years old!!  George who was born and raised in Pentridge was ninety on Saturday 10th March 2008!

When George was born, the First World War still had more than eighteen months to go, the television had not been invented, the road through Martin was dirt, flint and chalk and the village pond still existed adjacent to the East Martin turning. If you would like to know more of the history of Martin in the 20th Century, George has recorded some of his memories and these are held at the Wessex Film & Sound Archive at Winchester; find them on the Web at http://www.hants.gov.uk/record-office/film/index.html

What the Papers Say!

Here are articles about the Parish that have appeared in the local and national press:

Roll of Honour - a service of dedication led by our Rector Les Player was held at All Saints on the 22nd April 2007 for the introduction of a Parish Roll of Honour and Memorial Cabinet. The roll records all parishioners who have served their country at a time of war up to the Falklands War. The service was attended by several former villagers and their families including Fred Symes who researched and complied the roll and Mike Cox who made the cabinet that houses this unique record. The roll stands in the North aisle of the church. An article from the Avon Advertiser can be seen here.
